The World of Robotics story

Kevin and Pauline have been innovators in Robotics Education, working with both schools and industry organisations (CSIRO, Scienceworks, Questacon). For over 20 years they have been creating generations of creative and curious minds and their ability to immerse students in robotics ensures true light bulb learning moments.

Brief History

The World of Robotics was founded by Kevin and Pauline Taylor in 1988, interestingly Kevin spent many years in Senior Management in the Corporate World. During that time he ran many training sessions for aspiring leaders and often observed young men and women with unbelievable creative talents hesitant to express their ideas in writing. These talented people usually said,”Don’t ask me to write down all my ideas as I’m a hopeless speller!” Fearful of being frowned upon by their superiors for poor writing skills, (equating to lack of intelligence) and feelings of being overlooked in promotion was a constant source of concern for Kevin.

However the opportunity for Kevin to make a difference occurred when he was invited to the Robotics Games in Singapore. It was a “light bulb” moment for Kevin. During the weekend he witnessed students eagerly participating in teams, problem solving, engineering, programming using industrial resources and being resilient.

Kevin returned home, resigned from his corporate life and began his study into robotics hence, The World of Robotics was born and the rest is history.

Pauline trained as a Primary teacher and later did further study in Special Education and Multi-Sensory learning. She continued teaching until The World of Robotics became more financially secure and joined full-time in 2006 running incursions throughout Australia with Kevin.

How we work

We are a mobile service, which means in short, we come to you, whether you are a school, organisation or club.  The World of Robotics is a one-stop solution to immersing your students in robotics. Supplying tailored programs and providing all digital technology needed, the workshops go beyond Robotics and Digital Technologies – making solid connections with numeracy, literacy and thinking curricula.

We love what we do, and we love seeing children explore, problem solve, create and achieve a result they didn’t think possible. We also love hearing teachers, parents and even the students themselves say how engaged and ‘into it’ they have been…we hear comments like this on a regular basis.

We make numeracy and literacy fun, we take a practical and hands-on approach to learning. We’ve learnt from years of teaching, that if you expect every child to learn the same way then you will be letting a lot of children down. We are all made differently and we will have sparks within our brain that are drawn to certain techniques.

It is not uncommon for a teacher to tell us how thrilled he/she is to observe a particular student fully engaged, working collaboratively and problem solving in one of The World of Robotics real life challenges, when they struggle to participate positively and complete set tasks in the classroom.

What our clients think

  • World of Robotics offered our students thinking well beyond standard project learning… energy and enthusiasm – so much more than just a robot.

Marg Scott Network Improvement Officer Grampians Region
  • The children wore the hats of scientists and inventors when they investigated forces and energy through the mechanics of robots… true light bulb learning moments.

Joanne Kretsis Year 3 Team Leader Auburn South PS
  • All of our children were challenged and supported to succeed, and had a thoroughly enjoyable learning experience.

    Meg Collyer Seabrook Primary School
  • Creating generations of creative and curious minds.

Lisa Van Noordennen Principal Barnawartha Primary School
  • Problem-solving, persistence, scaffolded learning, high expectations, collaborative learning, risk-taking, test-evaluate-modify… Robotic Education met our aims and more!

Rob Nelson Principal Bannockburn Primary School
  • We have worked with World of Robotics for 15 years… the whole school, every year.”

Ian Sloane Principal Mitcham Primary School
  • The Robotics incursion complemented our inquiry learning philosophies of hands on constructive learning. The children wore the hats of scientists and inventors when they investigated forces and energy through the mechanics of robots. They were problem solvers throughout the whole time when they constructed their robot spaceships along with all the add on features. They problem solved and had many light bulb learning moments when it came to attaching the robotic appendages like the arms and lunar rovers.
